Definition / description
This phrase from epistemologist and anthropologist Gregory Bateson is from his 1972 book Steps to an Ecology of Mind. It has been picked up by writers in various fields from sociology to cybernetics to biology to help understand "the web of life".
Intuitively, many people know or would affirm that "everything is connected" in some way. But how and in what way? Can that way be clarified and made explicit? Is this pattern only a vague intuitive blur -- or does it point towards a principle that can be made scientific?
