Definition / description
This form demonstrates a hierarchy of abstraction in terms of the "relabeling of boundary values" for purposes of psychological convenience.
It shows the hierarchy of variable types, ranging from "ratio" to "interval" to "ordinal" to "nominal", where "ratio" has a defined 0 point.
A person might want to simply say "It was a hot day." If their friend wants to ask "How hot?", they can respond by drilling down to a more specific level of measurement. Maybe "very hot" -- or maybe "100 degrees".
